Keys to a Powerful Golf Swing - Hip Rotation

Real estate developer Michael Intoccia has built over 1,000 homes in the course of his 30-year career. When not overseeing construction projects, Michael Intoccia enjoys playing golf

Many golf pros are not excessively muscular but can consistently hit balls over 300 yards. Amateurs view such feats with awe. However, with the right approach, they can significantly increase their driving distance.

Tiger Woods is a well-known power swinger. Unlike many amateurs who swing their hips toward the ball on the downswing, inhibiting free flow, Tiger rotates his hips, maintaining the same distance from the ball at the top of his swing and at impact.

Jack Nicklaus, another legendary golfer, also emphasizes a good hip rotation to increase swing power. He recommends a stance with the right foot forward and the left foot turned outward 45 degrees. On the backswing, apply pressure on the right foot, fully extending the club away from the body and creating a wide swing arc. While swinging downward, replant the heel of the left foot while rolling both ankles toward the target line, enabling the hips to uncoil faster and facilitating a powerful rotation for a powerful swing.
